Why Heart & Soul changed direction

For years my work was year-end accounts and tax returns. Important work, but it always looked backwards. I’d sit with owners who had built something real, and see the questions they couldn’t answer: why there was never enough cash, which jobs were actually making money, whether they could afford the next hire.

Their accountant told them what happened last year. Nobody was helping them run what happened next. So that’s what I do now.

I also know what it’s like on your side of the table. I started my own accountancy company from scratch, so I understand first-hand the problems and challenges founders face.

Heart & Soul Accounting was previously known as HB Associates. Same person, same phone number, a new name for a new focus.

How I work

I take on a small number of clients so I can know each business properly. You deal with me, every time: no juniors, no handovers. I keep it attentive and detailed, with communication and planning at the heart of it, because that’s where I see too many accountants fall short.

I have particular experience with fast-growing companies, companies preparing for a sale, and founders who sit at the top of a large team on their own, often in media, construction and scaffolding. I work with most sectors. I’m also a keen networker, so if you need a solicitor, a lender or a specialist, there’s a good chance I know someone.
